Nomination certificate limits

The following numbers are accurate as of March 4, 2024.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) sets the limits for nomination certificates the AAIP can issue each year. AAIP has met the number of nomination certificates allocated by the federal government in 2023. AAIP’s 2024 allocation has not yet been confirmed. Notional increases to more than 10,000 nomination allocations per year are expected in 2024 and 2025. Additional information about the 2024 allocation and the projected split between Express Entry and non-Express Entry pathways will be provided when available.

Approximate volumes, processing times and assessment dates for each AAIP stream or pathway are provided below.

‘Assessing’ means an AAIP officer was assigned an application to assess and decide if an application is eligible.

The most common factors considered in AAIP application processing include:

  • application quality (completeness, eligibility, outdated information or documents)
  • volume of applications received
  • the date the application was received
  • strategic priorities, informed by labour market and economic development information
  • the number of nomination certificates remaining for the year

Applications by occupation

The AAIP has a high volume of applications in worker streams in the following occupations. When the volume of these applications exceeds the ability to issue nominations, these submissions may take longer to process or may be occupations excluded from Express Entry draws regardless of occupational demand.

  • 62010 – Retail sales supervisors
  • 13110 – Administrative assistants
  • 65201 – Food counter attendants, kitchen helpers and related support occupations
  • 73300 – Transport truck drivers
  • 13100 – Administrative officers
  • 12200 – Accounting technicians and bookkeepers
  • 42202 – Early childhood educators and assistant
  • 21231 – Software engineers and designers

Express Entry draws

The AAIP regularly reviews available candidates in the federal Express Entry pool. Based on available profile information in the portal, the AAIP draws to select candidates from the pool, inviting them to submit a completed application to the AAIP. Information on Alberta Express Entry Stream Notification of Interest factors is included on the Eligibility page. Accelerated Tech Pathway candidates are invited to apply, depending on the outcome of the review of their Accelerated Tech Pathway form.

The following parameters will apply to Alberta Express Entry Stream selection for 2023:

  • an estimated 31% of nominations will be allocated to candidates in in-demand occupations who have a close family connection (parent, child, brother or sister) in Alberta. In-demand occupations include occupations with significant cumulative imbalance on Alberta’s Occupational Outlook and occupations in ‘High’ or ‘Moderately High’ demand in the Short-Term Employment Forecast.
  • an estimated 23% of nominations will be allocated to candidates with a primary occupation in the health care, construction, agriculture, hospitality and tourism sectors, with priority given to candidates with an Alberta job offer
  • an estimated 45% of nominations will be allocated to the Accelerated Tech Pathway

The AAIP regularly reviews available candidates in the federal Express Entry pool. Based on available profile information in the portal, the AAIP draws to select candidates from the pool, inviting them to submit a completed application to the AAIP. Information on Alberta Express Entry Stream Notification of Interest factors is included on the Eligibility page. Accelerated Tech Pathway candidates are invited to apply, depending on the outcome of the review of their Accelerated Tech Pathway form.

The following parameters will apply to Alberta Express Entry Stream selection for 2023:

  • an estimated 31% of nominations will be allocated to candidates in in-demand occupations who have a close family connection (parent, child, brother or sister) in Alberta. In-demand occupations include occupations with significant cumulative imbalance on Alberta’s Occupational Outlook and occupations in ‘High’ or ‘Moderately High’ demand in the Short-Term Employment Forecast.
  • an estimated 23% of nominations will be allocated to candidates with a primary occupation in the health care, construction, agriculture, hospitality and tourism sectors, with priority given to candidates with an Alberta job offer
  • an estimated 45% of nominations will be allocated to the Accelerated Tech Pathway

Nomination certificate limits

The following numbers are accurate as of April 16, 2024.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) sets the limits for nomination certificates the AAIP issued 10,029 nomination certificates in 2023, which includes 279 nomination certificates issued under a federally authorized administrative buffer for Express Entry nomination certificates. AAIP’s 2024 allocation has not yet been confirmed. Notional increases to more than 10,000 nomination allocations per year are expected in 2024 and 2025. Additional information about the 2024 allocation and the projected split between Express Entry and non-Express Entry pathways will be provided when available.

原有的四个项目类别申请资格无变化:Alberta Opportunity Stream、Rural Renewal Stream、Accelerated Tech Pathway、Tourism and Hospitality Stream,

但以上四大类别统一改为抢名额制。每月开放一次,满额即止,2024年还有7次邀请机会,分别是June 11, July 9, August 13, September 10, October 8, November 5, and December 10,日期不固定,可能会有变化。

同时官网也更新了每月预计配额

2024年阿省共计配额9750个

  • Alberta Opportunity Stream体量最大的AOS机遇类别,预计每月接收人数在430-444人左右;2024年预计5393配额,目前已发放2245个省提名,目前审理至2023年10月26日递交的申请;
  • Accelerated Tech Pathway,ATP加速科技通道项目,预计每月接收人数50人;2024年预计发放1047配额,目前已发放536个省提名;目前审理至月2024年1月20日左右递交的申请;
  • Rural Renewal Stream预计每月接收人数在145-160人左右;
  • Tourism and Hospitality Stream预计每月接收人数在130-143人左右;

Entrepreneur stream processing times and volumes depend on expression of interest stage and business application or business performance agreement. On average, it takes up to four months to assess both an expression of interest and business application. Entrepreneur stream applicants have frequent contact with AAIP staff responsible for assessing eligibility for business application approval and nomination.

Application acceptance dates and application targets

Streams for workers

Effective June 11, 2024, AAIP has adopted new guidelines for the Alberta Opportunity Steam, Rural Renewal Stream and Accelerated Tech Pathway, similar to those used in the Tourism and Hospitality Stream for the remainder of 2024.

Processing times below have been adjusted to reflect the new guidelines. These dates will help applicants plan ahead. Application acceptance dates and application targets are approximate and are based on various unpredictable factors, including application volume, economic needs or priorities, remaining allocations available, and future planning. Check back regularly as details may change without prior notice, based on multiple variables.
