IRCC通过生物识别采集申请人的这些信息：

- 临时居留的申请人，正在申请：
- 临时居民签证（TRV）
- 延长授权期限以留在加拿大作为临时居民
- 临时居民许可证（TRP）
- 恢复临时居民身份
- 工作许可或工作许可的续签
- 学习许可或学习许可的续签
- 永久居留的申请人，正在申请：
- 永久居民签证
- 要求以永久居民身份留在加拿大的请求
- 因申请时未满14岁而免于参加生物识别信息采集的人，这是首次获得新的永久居民卡
- 申请难民保护的索赔人：
- 在加拿大的庇护申请（无年龄上限）
- 海外难民重新安置申请
有资格申请电子旅行授权eTA的人如果以tourist身份前往加拿大，则无需提供生物识别信息。

有时，当把申请提交到签证申请中心（VAC）时，申请者只有13岁，如果IRCC开始审理时该申请人为14岁，移民局会向申请人发出生物识别指导信（BIL：Biometric Instruction Letter）。
接近80岁的人 - 飞出国
出于生物识别目的，申请人的年龄基于IRCC收到申请的日期。
可能有一些申请人在提交申请时年满79岁，但在收集生物特征识别信息之前已年满80岁的情况。这些申请人需要提供他们的生物识别信息。 IRCC办事处，加拿大服务部和美国应用程序支持中心可以向所有出示有效BIL的申请人收集生物特征信息，而不论其年龄如何。但是，在签证申请中心（VAC），一旦申请人年满80岁，加拿大移民生物特征识别系统（CIBIDS：Canadian Immigration Biometric Identification System）将不允许收集生物特征信息。
