在加国学英语, 最有趣的事就是可以学到很多俚语。听加拿大人讲这些句子, 可能不会马上领会他们在说什么？但听多了，就慢慢了解这些俚语的含意了。在这里整理出来一些，但不管什么语言, 都应该考虑到说话的对象、场合与时间, 有些俚语并不适合在正式的场合用。
Good luck to you！祝你好运(顺利)
A: I have a job interview tomorrow. 我明天有份工作面见。
B: That’s wonderful! Good luck to you. I’m sure you’re going to do extremely well. 那真是太好了!祝你顺利! 我相信你一定会做得很好的。
“Good luck”是很好用的一句话。像是朋友要找工作、找房子, 都可以用这句话。好比Good luck to you on the test.祝你考试顺利。
Stay in touch 保持联络!
A: It’s getting late. I’d better go. 夜了。我要走了。
B: All right. Stay in touch and take care of yourself. 好的! 保持联络, 好好照顾自己。
“stay and touch”跟“keep in touch”都是“保持联络”的意思。
kick ass 了不起（Kick ass还是大胜、秒杀、横扫的意思。小胜说win就可以了。）
A: Wow, you fixed my computer in less than 10 minutes. You’re great. 哇! 你不到十分钟就把我的电脑修好了呀! 你很醒!
B: Yep. I just kick ass. 是的! 我就是厉害!
“kick ass”除了字面上的“踢屁股”外, 还有“厉害、打败”的意思。当“踢屁股”时, 比如某人背后说你闲话, 你很怒, 就可以说:“I’m going to kick his ass.”(我得踢他的屁股)。当“厉害”用时, 就像上面例句一样用。kick ass还可作“打败某人的意思”。比如某人一向在某方面比你强, 终于有一天你比他厉害了, 你就可以说:“Hahaha…I kicked your ass.”觉得“ass”太难听的人, 也可以用“butt”。
kiss ass 拍马屁
A: Jane, I’m sorry for cheating on you before. Do you see any chance that we can get back together? Jane, 我真的很抱歉对你不忠实。你想我们可不可能重修旧好呢?
B: I don’t know, but you can kiss my ass. 不知道, 不过你可以亲我的屁屁(巴结我)。
“亲屁屁”好像不大卫生吧! 不过人家就是这样用, 就照着“亲”吧!
cheat 除了作弊外, 还有不忠实的意思。
XYZ 检查你的拉链
Hey, man. XYZ. 老兄啊! 检查一下你的拉链吧。
“XYZ”是“Check your zipper.”的意思。在加国, 填表选项时多用打“X”来表示。这个选项的动作就叫“Check”, 也就是这里的XYZ 的 X所代表的。Y 是 Your, Z 就是 Zipper 啰!
Hit the road 上路了！
A: Do you want to come on over for some tea? 你要不要进来喝个茶呢?
B: No. I’m running late. I really need to hit the road. 不了。我快迟到了, 得上路了。
running late 是快迟到了的意思。
“Hit the road”的“hit”有“去”的意思。好比某人每周去健身房三次, 你就可以说：“He hits the gym three times a week.”或者“I really need to hit the road.”还可以用说成“I really need to get going.”
hang out 和朋友在一起
A: I don’t know what is going on lately. Ross seems to curse a lot these days. 不知道最近 Ross 怎么搞的。 他经常口出恶言。
B: Well, that’s just what you get from hanging out with the wrong crowd. 嗯, 交错了朋友就是这样啊!
“hang out”是和朋友一起做一些事。看电影、逛街、聊天都算。也不限指异性朋友
push around 驱使(某人)
A. Gary, do you think you can rewrite this paper. I don’t really like the topic. Gary, 你想你是不是可以把这个报告重写一遍。我并不是很喜欢那个主题。
B: Hey, I’m only trying to help you out. You shouldn’t be pushing me around like this. 嘿! 我是在帮你忙! 你不应该这样指使我!
“把一个人推来推去”应该和“指使”很容易联想吧!
brush off 不理；默视
A: Have you talked to Mr. Smith about John’s obscene speech towards you? 你跟 Smith 先生提过 John 对你讲的猥亵的话吗?
B: Yes, but he brushed it off as if it were not a big deal to him. 有! 但他轻轻带过(不理), 好像觉得那并没有什么!
“brush away(aside)也是“不理”的意思。如“He brushed aside our objection.”(他无视我们的反对。)
boss around 颐指气使
A: Oh! No. I’ve got assigned to work with Michael for our group project. 噢! 不! 我被分配跟 Michael 一起做团体作业。
B: Ooh! I heard that he love to boss people around. 唉呀! 我耞说他很爱指使人的。
“boss around”和“push around”都是“指使人”的意思。说一个人爱命令人也可以说“He is very bossy.”
Oh, boy! 乖乖! 唉呀! 真是!
A: Guess what? We first got a flat tire, and now my cell phone is dead. 你猜怎么了? 首先我门的车爆胎了, 现在我的手提电话又没电了。
B: Oh, boy! 唉!
flat tire 是爆胎的意思
“Oh, boy!”是美国人用的一种感叹表示词句。不必问他们为什么不说 “Oh, girl”还是别的, 因为他们也不知道。
bound to 必定
A: Pete forgot his map? Pete 忘了带地图了吗?
B: Yep! And he’s bound to lose his way. 是的! 他必定要迷路了。
“bound to”是必定的意思。“你死硬了!”就可以说：“You’re bound to die.”
all set 都准备妥当
A. Is my car ready yet? 我的车好了吗?
B: Yep! We just need to get this paper work done and you’ll be all set. 是的! 我们只要把这份“文件”完成, 你就一切都准备妥当了!
有时, 你到超市买东西, 买完要付帐时, 店员也会对你说：“Are you all set?”意思是问你是否想买的东西都找到了。
paper work 是指像契约、证明等的文书表格。
dirty work 卑鄙的工作；讨厌的工作
A: All right. You go ahead and sign this paper and I’ll do the dirty work. 好吧! 你就把这个东西(纸)签了, 剩下来的“下流的工作”就交给我了。
B: (It) Sounds good to me. 看起来不错!
“dirty work”在此指的是一些没人要作的扮坏人的事。
cop 警察
A: Oh! No. My TV and stereo are gone. Who did this? 噢! 我的电视和音响都不见了。谁做的?
B: I’ve already called 911. The cops should be here any time. 我已经报警了。警察应该随时会来。
加国人在口语里很少用“policeman”来表示“警察”。这里报警的电话号码是“911”，有时候, 加国人也用“91”来表示“紧急的事”。
spooky 玄；可怕的
A: I had a dream last night that Sam and I had a big argument. This morning he came in wearing the same clothes he had on in my dream! 我昨晚梦见我和 Sam 大吵了一场。 今天早上, 他穿著和他昨晚在我梦里穿的一样的衣服进来。
B: That’s spooky! 真玄!
“spooky”就是一些所谓的鬼怪、太凑巧而令人觉得“恐怖”的意思。
Say cheese (影相时)笑一笑
加国人影相时喜欢露齿而笑, 如果是“抿嘴”笑的话, 很可能是因为他觉得自己的牙齿长得不好或黄黄的(但不是绝对)。试着讲“cheese” 这个字, 你的牙齿是不是露出来了呢?
eat 使困扰；使不开心
A. What’s eating you? You’ve been so quiet all morning. 什么事让你不开心呢? 你整个早上都不说话。
B: I bombed in my final exam. 我的期末失败了!
“What’s eating you?”是个很常耞到的俚语。当你觉得某个人好像为某事所困扰, 以致整个人不大对劲, 就可以用这句话来问他, 到底发生什么事了。
“bomb”是个很有意思的字, 因为可以表示“完全的失败”, 也可以表示“作得很好”。要看当时的情形来决定。
