Online lodgement in Chinese
From 12 December 2016, visa applicants in China will be able to lodge visitor visa applications in Chinese through a new online service provided by the department’s service delivery partner.
Australian Visa Application Centres (AVACs) now provide an optional online lodgement service in Simplified Chinese for Visitor visa (subclass 600) Tourist stream applications. Individuals can complete their application online and in Chinese without visiting an office. Applications will be translated and lodged with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection for processing.

1. How do I apply for a 10-year ‘Frequent Traveller’ visitor visa?
Interested applicants for a 10-year ‘Frequent Traveller’ visitor visa must first book an appointment online to provide their biometrics from vfsglobal.cn.
On securing an appointment, applicants provide their biometrics (fingerprints and a photo) at an Australian Visa Application Centre before applying for this visa. Once they have provided Biometrics, applicants can make use of the Online Visa Application Lodgement service to lodge an application at the Australian Visa Application Centre, or they can apply online through the Department’s ImmiAccount.
During the trial, the 10-year ‘Frequent Traveller’ visitor visa will only be available to Chinese passport holders in mainland China for a fee of $AUD1000. While the baseline visa application charge for a visitor visa to Australia remains the same at AUD$135, this product has an increased cost for additional services.
2. I can’t obtain an appointment to provide biometrics, is there a limit to the number of appointments available?
The trial of the 10-year ‘Frequent Traveller’ visitor visa will initially be limited so we can evaluate the application process and the uptake of this product. Potential applicants should also consider the full range of visa options currently available to suit most travellers.

3. How long can a ‘Frequent Traveller’ visa holder stay in Australia?
10-year ‘Frequent Traveller’ visa holders will be able to stay in Australia for up to three months per visit, with multiple entries permitted. Visa holders will be allowed a cumulative stay of no more than 12 months in any 24 month period.
4. Can I work or study on this visa?
10-year ‘Frequent Traveller’ visitor visa holders are allowed to visit Australia for tourism purposes or to engage in business visitor activities, such as attending a conference. No work, other than business visitor activities, is permitted on this visa.
Similar to other visitor visas, the 10-year ‘Frequent Traveller’ visitor visa is subject to a condition allowing no more than three months’ study. Applicants should also be aware that generally, Australia only allows people to hold one visa at a time. This means that if you plan to change status to another visa in the future, for example to become a student or a skilled worker, you will lose the 10 year validity ‘Frequent Traveller’ visa.
5. Will visa holders need to provide updates of personal information over the duration of the visa?
We expect that holders of the 10 year validity ‘Frequent Traveller’ visa will be asked to revalidate the information they provided to the Department from time to time as required. This is designed to ensure that visa holders continue to meet the health, character, security and other requirements for entry to Australia.
