What’s it like to be an Electronics Engineering Technician?

Electronics engineering technicians assist electronics engineers with
research, design, manufacturing, operation and maintenance tasks.

They may work under the direction of electronics engineers, technologists or
associates in all stages of planning, design, maintenance and production.

Electronics engineering technicians may work on radio and television
transmitters, line communication cables, computers, signalling systems,
automatic control equipment and local and wide area networks. They work in
offices, technical laboratories or workshops, or outside on offshore oil rigs
or other outdoor locations. They may also work in a team with engineers,
engineering associates and tradespeople.

How much can I expect to earn?

Full-time employed Electronics Engineering Technician earn an average of $1348

Duties and tasks of an Electronics Engineering Technician

Electronics engineering technicians may perform the following tasks:

  • assemble circuitry for electronic equipment in accordance with technical manuals and engineers’ instructions
  • test electronic instruments and equipment and repair or replace faulty parts
  • calibrate electronic measuring and indicating instruments according to established standards
  • install, test, repair and modify electronic equipment, including local area networks, following technical manuals or engineers’ instructions.
